When I joined Valon four years ago, I wasn’t planning to work in fintech—and I definitely wasn’t thinking about mortgage servicing. I had just wrapped up a year in Beijing as a Schwarzman Scholar and was debating whether to start something of my own or join a company where I could grow.

What ultimately drew me to Valon wasn’t the industry. It was the opportunity to build something from the ground up, with people who cared about solving complex problems.

A Place for Builders

My first role here was Chief of Staff, though truthfully, neither our CEO Andrew nor I had a concrete definition for what that would look like. That ambiguity turned out to be a gift.

From day one, I was trusted with real responsibility—helping with acquisitions, diving into legal contracts, and figuring out how mortgage servicing actually works. It was a steep learning curve, but I wasn’t doing it alone. I had the support of a team that believed in learning by doing and wasn’t afraid to try new things.

Over time, my role evolved into GM of Insurance, where I’ve had the chance to build and lead a new business line from scratch. That kind of ownership is rare—and it’s something Valon actively encourages.

No Playbook? No Problem.

When I joined, I didn’t know much about the mortgage space. But what mattered more was curiosity and initiative.

At Valon, there’s a lot of room to grow if you’re willing to roll up your sleeves. People here are self-starters. They ask questions, take on challenges, and learn quickly. And while the problems we’re solving are complex, you don’t need to be an expert on day one—you just need to be ready to learn.

Valon has grown a lot since I joined—we’ve gone from around a dozen people to about 400. Many of us are in roles that didn’t exist a year ago, and we’re constantly evolving. We’ve proven we can build a platform that works, and we’ve earned the trust of homeowners and industry partners alike.

We’re at a true inflection point. The foundation is solid, and now it’s about scaling—faster, smarter, and with more impact.
